Long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids are a structural part of the brain and eye, playing an important role in vision and brain cell function. DHA is the most abundant omega-3 fatty acid in the brain, and is an essential constituent of nerve cells. Cells in the retina of the of the eye also contain a very high level of DHA, vital for maintaining eye function.
