Alpha Lipoic Acid or Lipoic acid is a very powerful antioxidant and is unique as it is soluble in both fats and water, this means that it is able to protect many different types of structures in the body from the damaging and degenerative effects of excess free-radicals. Alpha Lipoic acid is also capable of enhancing the action of other antioxidants such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, glutathione and Co Enzyme Q10 in the body. The human body can produce some Alpha Lipoic Acid and it can be found in the diet in red meat, however the real benefits of this substance are gained by supplementation.
